Abstract

We present three practical-theoretical workshop manuals which aim to assist in the spatial visualization of 3D geological structures. The workshop manuals focused on three main topics: 1) Attitude of planes, lines and stereographic projections, 2) Faults description and analysis, and 3) Folds description and analysis. Exercises contained in these manuals are accompanied by free online resources published in Spanish, such as videos, analog models, and animations. This material was designed and implemented during the virtual courses of the Structural Geology class at the undergraduate level of both the Sciences Faculty and Engineering Faculty at UNAM, throughout the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the years 2020 and 2021. In order to evaluate the quality of these materials, we applied a survey and analyzed the answers from 29 former students. Considering these results, along with the review of workshops solved by the students, we expose the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed material and further discuss their impact on the development of spatial skills for Earth Science students.
