Abstract

The text presents the experience of a field practice at the Huasteca Ecological Park in Nuevo León, with an orientation to knowledge of the Earth Sciences aimed at students of basic, bilingual, and private education. The importance of excursions is highlighted to link students with nature and the geology of the environment, accompanied by a geologist guide. This work enables students to better integrate the concepts learned in the classroom and in field practice. The NGSS-Next Generation Science Standards program served as a teaching framework for concepts of the natural environment, geological processes, and the importance of environmental conservation. Group activities were carried out to meet the educational objective and to practice the sense of orientation through the use of the compass, direct observation of natural elements, and their comparison with graphs and samples of rocks. The descriptive exercise helped students understand how mountains are formed, what types of rocks exist, what erosion is like in a valley, and where one of the aquifers that supply the metropolitan area of Monterrey is located.
